Synopsis

“Pilgrimage” noun: a journey, often into an unknown or foreign place, where a person goes in search of new or expanded meaning about their self, others, nature, …

Book of Life is the story of an existential search for an answer to an unanswerable question. A young man embarks on a lonely journey across a vast, ever-changing landscape, escaping the reality of a world that suffocates him. The answers he’s looking for may be contained in a book which he carries with him. Or, perhaps not…

Containing no dialogue, Book of Life is an experimental short film.

Production

Shot over 5 days across the west coast of Scotland, Director of Photography Graeme MacDonald, actor James Robinson and writer/director Alan Coulson embarked on their own pilgrimage across the sometimes hostile terrain of the Scottish hills and countryside, mirroring the journey of the story’s character.
